Hatha Flow
-
Hatha Flow classes combine classical Hatha Yoga postures with flowing movement linked to the breath (vinyasa). Benefits of regular practice include improved strength and muscular tone, increased flexibility and range of motion, and development of cardio-vascular health.
Hatha Flow classes also include focus on breath awareness, improving balance and body spatial awareness, as well as techniques aimed to improve mental clarity and calmness.
Included practices and techniques will vary class to class and instructor to instructor, depending on the individual teacher’s focus and chosen intention for that day.
-
Intensity levels in a Hatha Flow class range from low to more intense depending on the teacher’s intention for the day, their teaching style (eg some teach with more flowing elements whilst some prioritise more static postures), as well as your level of general fitness.
A typical Hatha Flow class will generally include:
gentler elements - eg warm up exercises, gentle breath practices, meditation, etc
medium intensity elements - eg postures that flow one to another, standing postures, seated postures, etc
higher intensity elements - balancing postures, postures that focus on core strength, longer held postures for general strength development, kriyā (practices that combine breath with vigorous movement)
Students always have the option to rest (eg sit out a pose) from time to time if needed.
Our teachers will also always offer variations within postures to suit your level of development and fitness so that beginners as well as more advanced practitioners benefit equally from each class.
-
Hatha Flow is suitable for practically all levels of fitness and flexibility. If you can move your body you can practice yoga. But if unsure, always consult your health professional, especially if you have underlying health concerns or conditions.
-
Students of Hatha Flow will need:
A yoga mat (bring your own or hire one at the studio)
A water bottle (not essential but handy if you get thirsty)
Appropriate yoga clothes (something you can sweat and stretch in)
A towel (optional). Note, towels may also be hired at the studio)
-
Our Hatha Flow classes are conducted in our heated studio practice spaces. Temperature is 30 degrees (though can vary depending on time of year, outside temperature, humidity levels, etc).
Studio access is available from 15 minutes prior to the start of each scheduled class with doors closing right at the time class starts. We suggest arriving at least 5-10 minutes prior to scheduled class time to avoid missing your class.
No-show and late cancellation fees apply - refer to pass terms and conditions for full details.

Bikram Yoga
-
Bikram Yoga is the original hot yoga and an experience like no other. Its three core pillars bring you face to face with your self, with nowhere to hide, breaking you down so you can build yourself back up.
Pillar 1: A 90 minute set sequence class of 26 yoga postures plus 2 breathing exercises that rejuvenate your entire body, inside and out. Practicing the same postures in the same order each class has multiple benefits including letting you see and measure your progress over time as well as giving you the opportunity to become familiar with each pose so that you can really absorb yourself into your practice.
Pillar 2: The language of the instructions. The “Bikram dialogue” as it is colloquially known by its teachers is designed to bring you right into your body. It is direct, leaving you no time to think, but just DO. This tool takes you deep into a concentrated state in an incredibly effective way.
Pillar 3: The (in)famous heat. Bikram classes are conducted at 40 degrees C, and 40% humidity. This aspect of the class is what you will most remember - whether you love or fear it. The heat has multiple benefits. It increases the flexibility of your fascia and joints and warms up your muscles (even before you start practicing). It makes you sweat and detoxify. Most importantly it challenges your mind. You cannot help but be focussed and present. Finally, it burns away your ego, bringing you closer to your true self.
We are also pleased to offer a 60 minute version of Bikram at Yoga 8. Scroll further down this page to read how the 60 minute version varies from the classic 90 minute class.
-
The intensity in a Bikram Yoga class derives mostly from the heat in the room. The postures themselves are Beginners poses. By this we mean that they are not complicated, neither do they require any particular level of flexibility. You simply enter each pose and work towards your maximum.
Some students can go further than others and that is great, because it means the postures are both beginner friendly whilst still leaving lots of scope to go deeper over time.
As with all physical posture classes students may rest / sit out a pose or two as required.
-
Bikram Yoga is suitable for practically all levels of fitness and flexibility. If you can move your body you can practice Bikram Yoga. But if unsure, always consult your health professional, especially if you have underlying health concerns or conditions.
As Bikram is a set sequence of postures, without flowing elements, and exercises all muscle groups and joints, it is considered a great practice for those wishing to overcome muscle and joint problems. Consult with us if you have any specific needs so that we can advise of any modifications for your practice.
-
Bikram is hot yoga. You will sweat. So we recommend for class:
A yoga mat (bring your own or hire one at the studio)
A large water bottle (filtered water taps available at the studio)
Appropriate yoga clothes for hot yoga (something you can sweat and stretch in)
A full size towel. Note, towels may also be hired at the studio)

Yin Yoga
-
Yin Yoga is a gentle practice of longer held, relaxed yoga postures, supported by bolsters, yoga blocks and other props.
It is practiced with muscles relaxed in order to target the body’s connective tissues - joints, tendons, ligaments, fascia, etc. This system of the body is what gives us our range of motion and supports the health of our muscles, organs, nervous system, and so on. Often when we experience pain, especially back pain, it is the fascia that is stiff and sore, not the muscles. So Yin Yoga is great for regaining and maintaining optimal fluid movement and relieving bodily aches and pains.
Yin Yoga derives its name from ideas of Classical Chinese Medicine where the body is harmonised by unblocking and balancing the flow of energy (called Qi) that moves throughout our entire bodies. Whilst this energy resides in every cell, it is said to flow in channels and these channels correspond almost perfectly with the lines of myo-fascia that are stretched in Yin Yoga postures. It is said that balanced Qi leads to harmony between our body, mind and spirit.
Yin Yoga postures are conducted mostly lying or sitting on the floor and are therefore suitable for almost everyone including those wanting to rehabilitate injury.
-
Yin Yoga is a passive practice, supported with yoga props, and so is suitable for every body. It is also helpful for those recovering from injury, or just looking to bring some more movement back into their body when feeling stiff and sore. It is better to maintain at least some movement in your body, even when injured and Yin Yoga affords this opportunity.
We each are unique in our anatomical make up and therefore our teachers will offer a wide range of options within each pose so that you can open and tune your body regardless of age, injury, level of natural flexibility (or stiffness!) and that is why Yin Yoga is so popular today.
Its quiet and slow nature is also perfect for relaxing the mind and letting go of internal stress.
-
There are no minimum fitness requirements for Yin Yoga as it is suitable for everyone.
-
Students of Yin Yoga will need:
A yoga mat (bring your own or hire one at the studio)
A water bottle (not essential but handy if you get thirsty)
Appropriate yoga clothes (something you can sweat and stretch in). Note: although our Yin classes are heated the practice itself is internally cooling. So bring layers if it’s a cool day.
-
Our Yin Yoga classes are conducted in our heated studio practice spaces. Temperature is 30 degrees (though can vary depending on time of year, outside temperature, humidity levels, etc). Yin is a passive practice and therefore the heat keeps you feeling comfy and cosy.

Hot Flow
-
Hot Flow takes our 60 minute Hatha Flow class and turns up the heat. The class structure retains the perfect combination of classical Hatha practices with flowing movement to help lengthen and tone your muscles whilst flushing your internal organs, and boosting the body’s yogic energy system.
Hot Flow is suitable for those new to flow, whilst offering the extra challenge that comes with practicing in a hot room.
Bring your mat and towel or hire from the studio if you just want to walk in and walk out.
Classes are conducted at approx. 35-37 degrees.
-
Hot Flow is a medium to high intensity class (depending on your level of general fitness) but there are no special prerequisites to attend.
The intensity is generally derived by the fact the room is heated and through the elements of flow (connected postures) that are part of a flow class.
As with all physical posture classes students may rest / sit out a pose or two as required.
-
Hot Flow is suitable for all levels of fitness and flexibility. If you can move your body you can practice yoga. But if unsure, always consult your health professional, especially if you have underlying health concerns or conditions.

Kundalini Yoga
-
Kuṇḍalinī is a Sanskrit word that translates as “primal energy,” an energy that is said to reside at the base of the spine.
Kundalini Yoga, under the direction of an experienced teacher, arouses this energy in a controlled way, using a blend of spiritual and physical practices – dynamic movement (kriyās), breathing techniques (prāṇāyāma), meditation, postures (āsana), visualisation, and vibration (mantras) – with the aim of strengthening, cleansing and purifying the physical body - nerves, glands and mind; as well as the "yogic" body - the visualised psychophysical energy body.
The goal of Kundalini Yoga is to develop vitality, awareness, consciousness and spiritual strength.
-
Kundalini Yoga is a medium intensity class (depending on your level of general fitness) with some gentler and more intense elements included from time to time. There are no special prerequisites to attend.
Like most physical and energetic yoga practices it involves a degree of mental focus and determination, especially as some of the techniques may be unfamiliar to you.
Students always have the option to rest (eg sit out a pose or technique) from time to time if needed.
With a prime focus on energy this class really shifts internal blockages.
-
Kundalini Yoga is suitable for all levels of fitness and flexibility. If you can move your body you can practice yoga. But if unsure, always consult your health professional, especially if you have underlying health concerns or conditions.

Bikram Yoga 60
-
Bikram Yoga 60 takes the original 90 minute hot yoga experience and transforms it into a one hour class. It’s 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises remain but we tweak the sequence by connecting some of the poses in series to to condense the overall time frame for the class.
You can read about the full benefits of Bikram Yoga by scrolling up the page to our description of Bikram Yoga but it’s three pillars remain:
